Ken Carver is in his third season at the helm of the Howard Payne program.
The 2007 season saw great improvements for the Lady Jackets but it did not show in their overall record.
In 2006, Carver guided the Lady Jackets to a 9-17 record. Four players were named to All-Conference teams and three Academic All-Conference selections. In the second match of this season Coach Carver received his 100th career coaching victory.
Before coming to Howard Payne he served as the head volleyball coach at MidAmerica for three seasons. In addition to excelling on the court, the players at MNU also excelled in the classroom. In his three seasons there, he had 13 players recognized as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes and 12 recognized as NAIA Scholar-Athletes. His 2003 team was honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award for a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Ken was recognized as the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2004 while leading that team to a 25-16 record finishing as the NCCAA Region Runner-up.
Ken has coached 17 NCCAA All-Region players, 6 NCCAA All-Americans, 13 All-Conference players, 2 NAIA All-Region players, and 1 NAIA All-American.
Before MidAmerica Nazarene he served one season as the head coach at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Coach Carver also coached at Indiana Wesleyan University where he started out as assistant volleyball coach. As an assisstant at IWU he helped established new school records in total wins (43-4) and win percentage (.915), and captured the NCAA National Championship. Later as the interim head coach at IWU, he was recognized as the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2001, leading his team to a 28-13 record returning to the NCCAA National Championship and finishing third.
Before he started in coaching, Carver served as the Director of the Botany Glen Adventure Center for five years at Indiana Wesleyan with the final three also serving concurrently as the Director of Intramural Sports and Wellness.
Carver graduated Cum Laude in May of 1994 from Malone College and has graduates studies in Wellness Management from Ball State University. He holds certifications from the USA Volleyball Accreditation Program – Level 1 and the USA Volleyball IMPACT Certification. He past 100 career coaching wins this season.
Coach Carver was recently married this last summer to his wfie Jill. They now live in Brownwood.
