IRVING, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jacket softball team managed only two hits against the 14th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team to lose 0-9 during the first day of play in the 2009 American Southwest Conference tournament at Trinity View Park.
This was the first meeting of the two teams this season, but both teams faced each other twice in the ASC tournament last season. Lauren Bollich and Kate McLaughlin recorded the hits for Howard Payne. Jenna Middleton started the game for HPU striking out three. She picked up the loss in three innings action. Melissa Hall also saw two innings of work in relief.
The Lady Jackets now stand at 29-10 on the year and UT-Tyler is 32-7 overall. Howard Payne will play the losser of Hardin-Simmons and Louisiana College on Friday at 2:00 pm. If the Lady Jackets win they will play again at 5:00 pm.
