Message from the Director of Athletics
Howard Payne University Athletics has seen a significant growth in numbers this fall with almost 400 student-athletes on campus. This fall also marks the return of Intercollegiate Cross Country for men and women, bringing our sports offering to 12 intercollegiate sports, 6 male and 6 female. So our programs are growing and thriving in one of the most challenging conferences in the country.
We have had great community support for Howard Payne University Athletics and we greatly appreciate all our supporters. 2009-2010 saw our greatest strides to date in the classroom as 126 of our student athletes were recognized by the NCAA on National Student Athlete Day. The increase in athletic numbers and the academic achievements are a credit to the recruiting efforts of our coaching staff, the hard work of all university offices, and the support of our great faculty.
The 2010-2011 year will again see familiar faces in our coaching staff as all head coaches and assistants are back for another year. We have a great coaching staff of which I am very proud. Our coaches are men and women that are not only good coaches but also great mentors and role models. It is gratifying to watch as they continue to build their programs and continue the tradition of excellence in intercollegiate athletics.
So, we look forward to the 2010-2011 year with great anticipation and excitement. Our coaches and athletes expect to compete well in all sports in the tough American Southwest Conference.
