Beck Wells of Brownwood earned NAIA All-American, all-district and all-conference honors as a catcher for the Yellow Jacket baseball team. He holds eight school records, including the career mark for highest batting average (.420) and home runs (22). HPU retired his jersey in recognition of his achievements. Following his senior year, Wells played professional baseball for the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League in Ohio. He later signed with the Texas Rangers and played for their minor league team in Charleston, S.C. Wells left baseball after a shoulder injury and moved to Toronto to work in property restoration.
