Robert “Bobby” Robbins came to Howard Payne College from El Campo High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Robbins played quarterback in high school but started for the Yellow Jackets as a fullback and soon moved to center. He was a three-year starter for Howard Payne on both the offensive and defensive side of the football. He was named to The Dallas Morning News’ First-Team All-Texas Conference Team in 1960 and 1961. He also was named Second Team All-Lone Star Conference in 1960. After graduation in 1962, Robbins served as a high school coach for football, track and basketball. He taught and coached at May, Lazbuddie, High Island, San Angelo Lakeview, Angleton, Ingleside, Marshall and Karnack high schools. In 1984, he received a Master of Education from East Texas State University. In 1985, he transitioned into high school administration to serve for five years as principal at Karnack ISD before retiring to Rockwall.
