Howard Payne University Athletics

Vera Davis Turnipseede was the first woman athlete inducted into the Howard Payne Athletics Hall of Fame. Turnipseede, a Del Valle High School graduate, lettered four years in volleyball and was the team’s most valuable player three times. She was also voted Homecoming Queen in 1980. After graduating in 1981 as a physical education major, she worked for Northrop Grumman, the Hutto and Elgin ISDs, First Baptist Church of Taylor and MonDel Homes.
