Abram Choate, SID
RICHARDSON, Texas - Howard Payne sophomore softball player, Melissa Hall, was named to the American Southwest Conference Spring 2009 Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team the ASC office annouunced on Friday.
Melissa Hall had a 9-2 record on 20 appearances and 86 innings pitched this season. She has one of the highest GPA's in the HPU softball program and has been named to the Dean's and President's list at HPU. She was also named Academic All-Conference this season.
Overall, 68 student-athletes from ASC baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field teams were named to the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team.
The honor, in its second academic year, recognizes student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list – limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport – the Sports Information Directors from the conference's 15 member institutions vote on a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete from each sport.
