Lady Jackets Defeat Tournament Host Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, GA – Howard Payne's Dana Marrs scored a game high 24 points to lead the Lady Jackets over Oglethorpe University 74-65 in non-conference action Friday evening.

Dana Marrs' 24 points was a new career high and came on 8 of 14 shooting from the field. The Lady Jackets defense played solid forcing 19 Oglethorpe turnovers while only committing 11 themselves.

With both teams sharing the lead throughout the first half, the Lady Jackets would use a 5-0 run in the closing minutes to hold a 43-40 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Howard Payne expanded their lead to eleven, 66-55 on a layup by Danyel Bradley with 4:37 left to play. Bradley finished with eight points.

Shardena Hudson had 14 points off the bench on 4 of 5 shooting. Senae Dillard had 10 rebounds and Tresta Donahoo added a game high six assists with three steals.

Sarah Giles led Oglethorpe with 21 points and nine rebounds. Emily Buck added 10 points.

The Lady Jackets stand at 7-2 overall and Oglethorpe is at 2-7 overall. Howard Payne will play next on December 28th and 29th in the Trinity University tournament in San Antonio, Texas. HPU will take on Carthage University and State University of NY-IT.
