The Lady Jackets sting the Sul Ross Lady Lobos 54-28

BROWNWOOD, TX - HPU's defense holding Sul Ross to 20.4% shooting from the field was the key to the Lady Jackets 54-28 win. HPU held Sul Ross to 17.4% shooting in the first half. Sul Ross scored only 11 field goals in the entire game.

In the first half, the Lady Jackets jumped out to a 10-0 lead before finally being broken by a Sul Ross lay-up. HPU extend its first half lead to 31-6 with 1:35 to play in the half on a lay-up by So. G Molly Buker(Edgewood HS). The Lady Jackets great half was sparked by HPU's defense forcing 12 turnovers and allowing Sul Ross only 4 first half field goals. HPU was lead by Jr. G Heather Hohertz's(Priddy HS) 12 points and So G Meia Daniels'(Fossil Ridge HS) 11 points and 8 rebound in the first half.

The second half started out with a jumper by HPU's So. F Daphnie Pippins(Arlington-Lamar HS) as the half was much of the same for HPU. Sul Ross was unable to cut into HPU's lead as the Lady Jacket extended their lead to 32 at 6:01 left in the game on a free-throw by So C Jennifer Wallenmeyer(Edmond, OK-Santa Fe HS). Much of the HPU bench played in the half. Some highlights from the HPU bench, Wallenmeyer scored 9 points with 4 blocks and Sr F Joslyn Robinson(Austin-Bowie HS) and Fr. F Bradi Gardner(Granbury HS) had 7 and 4 rebounds respectively. Another monster game by Meia Daniels as she posted another double-double on the season with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals.

The Sul Ross Lady Lobo's were lead by Soli Quintanilla's 8 points and Kym Kyzar's 8 rebounds.

 

   

Women's basketball head coach, Chris Kielsmeier, was honored at halftime of men's game for reaching 100th career coaching win last week on the road verses LeTourneau. Coach Kielsmeier has reached this milestone in less than six season. He is the winningest women's coach in HPU history and is averaging around 19 wins per season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Lady Jacket will be back in action against Southwestern University at 6pm on Monday, December 19, 2005 in the Brownwood Coliseum.
