BROWNWOOD, TX – The Lady Jackets defense was too much for the visiting Lady Pirates of Southwestern. HPU forced 30 turnovers and held Southwestern to 32% shooting from the field to blow-out the Lady Pirates 74-34 on Monday in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The only tie in the game was at the 16:47 mark of the first half at 2-2, but from there it was all the Lady Jackets. HPU went on a 13-2 run to make the score 15-4 at 13:24 in the first half on a 3-pointer by Jr. G Heather Hohertz(Priddy HS). Southwestern stayed around provided by solid play by Natasha Azizi until 9:06 in the first when Fr. F Bradi Gardner(Granbury HS) hit a jumper to start a 15-2 run by HPU. The half time score was 40-19 HPU. The Lady Jackets shot 45.7% from the floor while holding Southwestern to 32.1%. Two Lady Jackets had double digits at half, Heather Hohertz with 10 and So G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) with 11.
The second half was much of the same. HPU extended their lead to as much as 41 at 4:31 left on a jumper by Fr. G Jessica Stephenson(Duncanville HS) to make the score 69-28. Southwestern only had 7 field goals in the half. HPU only allowed 15 points and forced 17 turnovers in the second half.
HPU's Jr G Molly Buker(Edgewood HS) and Heather Hohertz scored 13 and 10 respectively on the game. Meia Daniels scored a game high 25, and grabbed a game high 8 rebounds with 3 steals and 3 assists.
Southwestern was lead by Natasha Azizi and Beth Thomas both off the bench with 10 points.
HPU Lady Jackets will be back in action after the Christmas break on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Brownwood Coliseum against University of Texas at Dallas at 5:30 pm.
