Lady Jackets defeat LeTourneau University 70-48

LONGVIEW, TX - Lady Jacket use strong rebounding and second chance points to win Thursday night and move to 6-1 (4-1 ASC) on the season. Howard Payne controlled the glass, out rebounding LeTourneau 55-30 and scored 24 second chance points.

HPU was able to use nine offensive rebounds to their advantage and led 30-18 at the half. The Lady Jackets shot 36% from the floor in the first half holding LeTourneau to 22.7% shooting.

Howard Payne continued to pound the ball inside in the second half and rebounded strong on their way to 15 second half offensive rebounds.  HPU accumulated 17 second chance points in the second half alone and were able to keep LeTourneau in check the entire game.

Howard Payne was led by So. G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) and So. F Daphnie Pippins(Arlington-Lamar HS).  Daniels led the team with 17 points and a game high 14 rebounds while Pippins added 13 points and 10 rebounds of her own.  So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS) added 13 points as well for HPU.

The leading scorer for LeTourneau was McKay with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The win was the 100th career win for HPU head coach Chris Kielsmeier. This task Coach Kielsmeier has accomplished in less than 6 seasons and he is the winningest women's coach in school history.

HPU will be back in action on Saturday at East Texas Baptist University.
