BROWNWOOD, TX…Powered by the pitching of Tiffany Wolfe (Ft. Worth, TX/N. Crowley HS) the Howard Payne softball team (5-12/3-4 ASC) split with the Tornadoes of Concordia University Austin (4-10/2-4 ASC) on Friday at Lady Jacket Field. Wolfe dominated the mound in the Jackets' 4-1 win in the first game, throwing eight strike outs and only allowing one hit in seven innings. HPU would fall 5-2 in the second game
Jill McLaughlin (Brock, TX/Grayson CC) pitched 6.2 innings in the second game allowing six hits and one earned run.
Chinesia Rhinehart (Ft. Worth, TX/Southwest HS) and McLaughlin led HPU with three hits on the day. Tammie Hart's (Early, TX/Early HS) double, in the first game, knocked in two runs.
In the second game of the double header, the Jackets held a 2-1 lead entering the top of the sixth inning, but CUA would single in a run to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the seventh, CUA would take advantage of a two-out error, scoring on a walk and single, both with the bases loaded.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow to play a double header at 12 noon.
