FARMERS BRANCH, TX…Over the weekend the Howard Payne softball team (2-8/2-2 ASC) participated in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Softball Tournament winning and losing one game each day. UT-Dallas and Ozarks fell victim to HPU 4-3 and 4-2, respectively. Tiffany Wolfe (Ft. Worth, TX/N. Crowley HS) and Jill McLaughlin (Brock, TX/Grayson CC) each pitched complete game wins for HPU.
In the Jackets first win of the season (UT-Dallas), Chelsey Densman (Eula, TX/EHS) went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI. Paige Phillips (Frankston, TX/FHS), Chinesia Rhinehart (Ft. Worth, TX/Southwest HS) and Kasi McCain (Corsicana, TX/Mildred HS) all knocked in one run for the Jackets.
McLaughlin struck out six Comets and allowed one earned run.
On the second day of competition the Jackets found the win column in their first game of the day by way of a 4-2 victory over the Eagles of Ozarks. Wolfe allowed seven hits while striking out four batters.
McCain would homer in the top of the sixth to give HPU a 4-0 lead. Phillips and Wolfe each would tally an RBI in the game.
Due to the high volume of games over the weekend, stats were not avaliable for the UT-Tyler and Mississippi College games.
HPU travels to LeTourneau next weekend to participate in the LeTourneau Invitational.
