ALPINE, TX…The Jackets were hot at the plate and on the mound as they completed their first sweep of an ASC-West opponent this season against Sul Ross this past weekend. Tiffany Wolfe (Ft. Worth, TX/N. Crowley HS) pitched all four wins throwing 23 innings and racking up 25 strike outs. At the plate, Dayberly Hopper (Early, TX.EHS) and Brooke Schneider (Yoakum, TX/YHS) each batter .500 or better with a combined 11 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
In Friday's game one, HPU exploded with seven runs in the second to gain an 8-1 upper hand. Wolfe helped herself with a two RBI double.
HPU would score five runs in the final two innings to take a 13-1 victory.
Game two had much of the same play as HPU jumped out and scored a run in their first trip to the plate thanks to a Jill McLaughlin (Brock, TX/Grayson HS) leadoff inside the park homerun. Her run was enough support for Wolfe as she tossed a two hit shutout.
On Saturday, the Jackets would jump out early again scoring five runs in the first. Hopper and Schneider each picked up four RBIs in the inning. Wolfe would pitch four innings of scoreless ball and be relieved by Kasi McCain (Corsicana, TX/Mildred HS) would allow one run in the fifth. Hopper had two doubles for the game.
Wolfe would pitch a complete game in the series finale, striking out seven Lobos in seven innings. McCain led HPU with three hits and two runs scored. Schneider, Chinesia Rhinehart (Ft. Worth, TX/Southwest HS), Chelsey Densman (Eula, TX/EHS) and Meredith Yates (Prosper, TX/PHS) each had two hits. Yates knocked at homerun in the game.
With a 14-10 ASC record, HPU is tied for second in the ASC-West Division with Mary Hardin-Baylor and Texas Lutheran. HPU will host TLU this weekend and need three victories to secure the last spot in the ASC Championship Tournament held in Irving April 29th and 30th.
