BELTON, TX…Tiffany Wolfe (Ft. Worth, TX/N. Crowley HS) picked up the only Yellow Jacket win this weekend, winning the final game of a four game ASC-West series against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Belton. Wolfe struck out eight batters in seven innings of work.
HPU opened the weekend with back-to-back loses on Friday 3-2 and 11-9.
In the first game, the Jackets jumped on the scoreboard early scoring two runs in the top of the second inning, but failed to cross the plate for the rest of the game. Three Jackets would reach base on three consecutive errors to start the inning off. Brooke Schneider (Yoakum, TX/YHS) and Chinesia Rhinehart (Ft. Worth, TX/Southwest HS) recorded the lone runs for HPU.
Chelsey Densman (Eula, TX/EHS) was the only Jacket credited with an RBI.
UMHB would start off the second game with nine runs in the first two innings for an early 9-0 lead, but in the top of the third the Jacket bats came alive scoring five runs on six hits, highlighted by Dayberly Hoppers' (Early, TX/EHS) three-run homer. She finished the game with three RBI', two runs scored and one hit.
Densman and Jill McLaughlin (Brock, TX/Grayson JC) each had two hits. McLaughlin finished with one RBI and two runs scored.
On Saturday the Jackets would once again fall behind early as the Crusaders jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game one. HPU's first run would come via a Cassie McCain (Corsicana, TX/Mildred HS) solo homer in the top of the second.
The Jackets scored two in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3, but UMHB would score four more runs in their last two at-bats to walk away with an 8-3 victory.
HPU would get revenge in the final game of the series nabbing their a 4-3 win thanks to a Densman two-RBI double that capped off a four run fourth inning. The Crusaders would bounce back in the bottom of the fifth to score three runs but were unable to cross the plate for the remained of the game.
HPU will prepare to host the Mountaineers of Schriener University this weekend. Friday's games begin at 1:00 pm at Lady Jacket Field and Saturday's games begin at 12 noon, also at Lady Jacket Field.
