BROWNWOOD, TX…Tiffany Wolfe (Ft. Worth, TX/N. Crowley HS) pitched two complete games victories for Howard Payne as they swept the Mountaineers of Schreiner University. The Jackets' bats came alive for 16 runs on 18 hits in the 8-0 and 8-4 wins.
Wolfe threw 12 innings allowing 14 hits while striking out five SU batters. From the plate she also smacked a two-run homer in game two, finishing 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs.
The 8-0 victory in game one snapped a six game ASC-West losing streak dating all the way back to March 18th.
Dayberly Hopper (Early, TX/EHS) reached on a fielder's choice and then scored to give HPU an early 1-0 lead in their first trip to the plate.
HPU would score two more in the second, four more in the fourth and one final run in the fifth to give them the 8-0 win.
In game two, HPU would spot SU three runs in the top of the first digging themselves into a hole early. The Jackets would score two in the bottom of the first and then break open the game in the third scoring four runs, highlighted by a Meredith Yates (Prosper, TX/PHS) two-run double.
Both teams will square off tomorrow to wrap up their four game series.
