Lady Jackets back to winning ways

SEGUIN, TX – The Howard Payne women's basketball team held Texas Lutheran without a field goal for 10 minutes and 34 seconds at the start of the second half and handed the Bulldogs a 63-41 conference defeat Thursday night in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs shot just 21.7 percent from the field for the game. Midway through the second half, TLU had just six total field goals. The two teams combined for 61 turnovers. Howard Payne committed 31, and Texas Lutheran had 30.

Howard Payne led by 17, 35-18, at the break and increased its lead to as many as 28 in the second half.

TLU's Tyson Mathews finished the night with 14 points, seven rebounds and nine steals.

Howard Payne received 12 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals from So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS). So. G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Howard Payne improved to 12-3 overall and to 9-3 in the American Southwest Conference. Texas Lutheran fell to 2-14 overall and to 2-11 in the ASC.

HPU is back in action on Saturday in Kerrville against Schreiner at 1:00pm.
