Jackets Get First Win Of Season

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne use 51.5% shooting from the field to post a 95-62 blow-out win over visiting LeTourneau Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne held LeTourneau to 23.4% shooting in the game. HPU forward Graig Blackmon (Houston) came off the bench and had a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs for Blackmon.

HPU jumped out to an early 12-2 lead on a 3-point play by Kendrick Johnson (Houston) at the 17:00 minute mark of the first half.

The Yellow Jackets were able to build their lead to as much as 18 with 6 minutes left in the first. LeTourneau from there was able to cut it to 15 at the half, 43-28 HPU.

In the second half HPU was able to expand their lead and hold on to win 95-62.

HPU was led by Tom Hermann (Fort Worth) with 17 points. Sean Wheeler (San Angelo) had 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Kendrick Johnson had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Dusty Evers led LeToureau with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. JJ Rockmore had 14 and Jayme Bradley had 12.

The Yellow Jackets will be on the road Monday taking on Sul Ross State in an ASC West Divsion game.
