BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Yellow Jackets hit 19-26 from the free-throw line(12 more attempts than TLU) to lift them past the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University 74-66 Thursday night in the Brownwood Coliseum.

HPU jumped out to a 11-3 lead at the 15:05 mark in the first, sparked by great half court pressure by HPU. The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 12, 30-18, on a 3-pointer by Matt Zinser(Burnet, TX). It remained about the same all the way till half. HPU took a 40-27 lead into the locker room.

TLU made a run and cut the HPU lead to 4, 43-39 on a lay-up by Brain Alves with15:23 to play. HPU extended the lead back to 10 on a 3-point play by Kendrick Johnson(Houston, TX) with 13 minutes left to play. The Bulldogs got it within 4 with a 1:39 minutes to play but HPU held on from there to win 74-66. The Yellow Jackets hit 19-26 from the free-throw line(12 more attempts than TLU).

HPU was lead by Kendrick Johnson with a game high 24. Cliff McGuire(Haskell, TX) with another double-double on the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sean Wheeler(San Angelo, TX) pulled down a game high 13 boards.

TLU's Matt Nelson and Will Hudson both had 14 points. Brian Alves also had 10 points.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday at home taking on Schreiner University at 3:00pm.
