Free-throws help Lady Jackets win big

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Lady Jackets shot 25 more free-throws than the Lady Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University and go on to win 61-37 Thursday night in the Brownwood Coliseum.

The Lady Jackets started the game on a 7-0 run, but neither team mustered many points from then. At 7:30 before half the score was 15-10 HPU. The Lady Jackets went on a 6-0 run to bring the score to 21-10 with 4:50 to play before halftime. HPU extended their lead again to 33-15 at halftime. HPU held TLU to just 16% shooting in the first half.
                                            
HPU started the first five minutes of the second half on a 7-0 run, 40-15.  The score margin remained about the same, 48-25 at the 9:56 mark on two free-throws by HPU's Stacey Blalock(Magnolia, TX). The Lady Bulldogs were able to cut into the lead slightly but never really get back in the game. Howard Payne went on to win 61-37. The difference in the game was that HPU went to the free-throw line 25 more times that TLU. HPU was 26 of 37 from the free-throw line.

HPU's Meia Daniels(Fort Worth, TX) led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Mariah Smith led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.

The Lady Jackets will be back in action at home this Saturday against Schreiner University at 1:00pm.
