KERRVILLE, Texas - The Lady Jacket softball team only drops one of four games in the series against Schreiner this weekend.
The Lady Jackets outscore Schreiner 21 to 7 in the four games over the weekend. Their only blemish was the game one loss 6-4. HPU's Kate McLaughlin was the hot bat in the series as she went 6 of 13, batting .462, and driving in 3 runs.
Schreiner's four runs in the bottom of the fourth was the difference maker in game one. Howard Payne's Jennifer Middleton picked up the loss while Schreiner's Hason got the win.
In game two on Friday HPU had an explosion of offense winning 13-0, as they scored 7 runs in the second and 6 runs in the third. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth because of run-rule. HPU scored 13 runs on 17 hits, and only one struck-out.
Game three on Saturday, was a pitchers dual as HPU's Jill McLaughlin pitched the entire game winning 1-0. McLaughlin gave up five hits and struck-out seven. The Lady Jackets only run came in the top of the first inning. HPU had one run on 5 hits in the game.
Game four was another great pitching performance by McLaughlin as she got another complete game win, 3-1. She gave up three hits, striking-out 3, and walking 2.
