BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team late innings rallies come up short as they drop two games to the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls 4-3 and 6-4 on Friday at Jacket Field.
In game one, HSU struck first scoring one run in the top of the third. Howard Payne answered in the fifth when Kate McLaughlin scored on an error by the Cowgirls third baseman and then Candra McKee's single to left field scored Brooke Schneider to give the Lady Jackets a 2-1 lead.
Two HPU errors in the next inning allowed HSU to score 3 and bring the score to 4-2. HPU added another run in the next inning to make the score 4-3 on a HSU pass ball scoring HPU's LaBlue, but that was as close as the Lady Jacket would get.
Howard Payne's Tiffany Wolfe got the loss in the contest, while HSU Arin Spence picked up the win.
