Second Half Rally Comes Up Short Against MC

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets second half rally comes up short as 10th ranked Mississippi College claims a 76-64 victory Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum.

HPU built an early 9 point lead on a lay-up by Tom Hermann (Fort Worth) with 15:26 in the first. Mississippi College shot a red hot 60.7% from the floor in the first half and retook the lead. HPU was able to hang tough and go into the halftime break only down 45-36.

In the second, HPU was able to cut MC's lead to 3, 53-56, on a lay-up by Kendrick Johnson (Houston) with 9:54 to play. MC used great shooting to extend their lead again and went on to win 76-64.

HPU was led by Sean Wheeler (San Angelo) with 16 points followed close by Kendrick Johnson with 15. Lee Scott (Snyder) also chipped in 10 points for the Jackets.

MC had D.J.Jones with 19 points followed by Tim Broomfield with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Marcus Evans had 11 points.

The Jackets will play on the road on Thursday at Schreiner, a 7:30 pm start.
