Howard Payne Finishes Out Season During Homecoming Weekend

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne women's soccer team finished out the 2007 season during Homecoming weekend with a 0-8 loss to Hardin-Simmons and a 2-1 victory over McMurry at Citizens National Bank Field.

On Friday the Lady Jackets took on nationally ranked Hardin-Simmons. Last season Howard Payne was handed a 0-20 loss in Abilene by the HSU Cowgirls.

A much improved Howard Payne was able to keep the HSU offense at bay for awhile but HSU went on to win 8-0.

GK Nicole Pena recorded 5 saves in goal for the Lady Jackets.

On Saturday the Lady Jackets took on McMurry University. Both teams played to a 0-0 halftime tie.

McM scored in the first minute of the second half on an unassisted goal by Samantha Reaves.

In the 70th minute Felicia Pena received a pass from Nelly Ruiz and found the back on the net to tie the game. It was Felicia Pena's 10th goal of the season.

Just three minutes later the Lady Jackets scored again when Diana Bolanos gave HPU the lead and the win. Felicia Pena was awarded the assist.

Goal Keeper Nicole Pena recorded 3 saves in the victory.

The Lady Jackets finished the season with 5 wins, 11 losses, and 1 tie.
