Jackets Fall To Sul Ross 65-60

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Sul Ross State Lobos shot 55.5 % from the 3-point line on their way to a 65-60 win over Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets forced 19 Sul Ross turnovers but 48.8% shooting from the field by the Lobos and 55.5% from the 3-point line was the difference in the game.

Sul Ross jumped out to an early 19-10 lead at the 12 minute mark in the first, but the Jackets battled back to take a 33-29 halftime lead.

The Jackets would again get down in the second half by as much as 11, 45-56, with 8:06 to play. Howard Payne rallied and cut the Sul Ross lead to 1, 60-61 with 2:11 left in the game.

The HPU rally fell short and Sul Ross when on to win 65-60.

Sul Ross had four players in double-digits in scoring led by Art Gonzalez with a game-high 19 points. Filiberto Torres added 16 and Abraham Ely and Ricky Aguilar had 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Jackets were led by last week's ASC West-Division Player of the Week Tom Hermann with 13 points. Travis Dawson added 9 points and Bryan Blalock came off the bench and grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds.

Howard Payne will play on Saturday against visiting University of the Ozarks in the Brownwood Coliseum.
