Free-Throws Led To Loss Against LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau University shot 28 more free-throws than the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets on their way to a 74-72 win in American Southwest Conference action Monday afternoon.

 

Howard Payne out-shot LeTourneau 47.5% to 34.5%, but it was the free-throws which made the difference in the game.

 

The game was close the entire game with neither team able to get more than an 8-point advantage.

 

HPU was able to get a seven point lead 62-55 with 7:39 to play in the game, but was unable to hold on. LeTourneau battled back to take the game 74-72.

 

Howard Payne was led by Tom Hermann with a game high 28 points and 9 rebounds. Hermann was 12 of 16 from the field and 3 of 4 from behind the arc. Lee Scott had a solid performance with 15 points.

 

Dewones Smith led LeTourneau with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Dusty Evers had nine and four other LeTourneau players had 8 points each.

 

Howard Payne fell to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in ASC action, while LeTourneau improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the ASC.

 

Howard Payne will play next at home on December 28 at 3:00pm against the University of Texas at Permian Basin.
