Jackets lose 76-84

BELTON, Texas – The Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne University fouled 29 times giving the Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor 40 free-throw attempts in a 76-84 loss Saturday in the Mayborn Campus Center.

It was a tight game at the start, but with 6 minutes left in the first Howard Payne made a run and built an 8 point lead. UMHB fought back with great play from Neiman Ford. Matt Dickey's lay-up with one second remaining gave UMHB a 43-42 halftime advantage.

In the second, UMHB built a 6 point lead, 58-52, with 14:56 to play. UMHB held strong and took the game 84-76.

Howard Payne was led by Josh Weatherred with 16. Kendrick Johnson and Sean Wheeler had 13 each.

UMHB got a game-high 22 points out of Neiman Ford and 21 from Kevin Guyden. Matt Dickey score 11.

Howard Payne will play at home on Thursday against Schreiner University at 7:30 p.m.
