BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University's Tom Hermann hits a lay-up at the final buzzer to lift the Yellow Jackets over the Mountaineers of Schreiner University 99-97 on Thursday in the Brownwood Coliseum.

The HPU Jackets were down by 19, 25-44, with 5:44 to play in the first half. The Jackets were able to cut the Schreiner lead to 12, 42-54 Schreiner at the half.

In the first 7 minutes of the second, HPU stormed back and out-scored Schreiner 25 to 11 to take the lead 67-65. The game went back and forth from there, but with 32 seconds remaining HPU's Tom Hermann hit a lay-up to tie the game at 97-97. HPU forced a Schreiner turnover with 3 seconds left. HPU threw a pass the length of the floor to Sean Wheeler who missed the shot but Tom Hermann tipped the ball in at the buzzer. HPU won 99-97 at the buzzer.

HPU was led by Tom Herman's game-high 27, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. It was a career high in points for Hermann. Kendrick Johnson had a great game with 26 and Sean Wheeler had 19 points. Lee Scott had 12 points.

Schreiner was led by Jonathan Young with 24 and Richard Moore with 19 points. Travis Clark had 19 while Kevin Deans had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
