AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets shoot over 50% from the floor but fall in a shoot-out to Concordia University-Austin 118-109 Thursday night.
Concordia jumped out early and was able to maintain a 10 point lead most of the game with their largest lead being 18 points at one point.
The closest the Yellow Jackets got to Concordia in the ball game would be 6 with about 7 minutes remaining but HPU ran out of steam from there.
The Jackets were led by Kendrick Johnson's (Houston) game-high 36 points and 6 assists. Sean Wheeler (San Angelo) and Lee Scott (Snyder) had 17 points each and Tom Hermann (Ft. Worth) and Brook Woods (Brownwood) scored 10 apiece.
CUA was led by Joel McDonald with 27 points (21 in the first half). Roland Mitchell had 21 and Michael Moore had 20. Brad Walker also scored 18 in the game.
Howard Payne will play on Saturday in Belton against Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m.
