Jackets Split With TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team secured an 8-1 win over Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference action Thursday afternoon at the TLU tennis courts. While in women's action, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets scored a 9-0 win over TLU.

The TLU men swept all three doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches. Playing without No. 2 singles player Rodney Munoz, the Bulldogs received singles victories from Dante Cage, Mike Campbell, Cody Fuller, John McCullagh and Jonathon Hartwell.

Cage and Jeff Wanek won at No. 1 doubles 9-8 (8-6 in tiebreaker) over HPU's Ricky Gonzales and Chris Sutton. TLU's Fuller and Campbell won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, and Hartwell and Brandon Lee registered an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

In women's action, HPU's Susanna Street took a No. 1 singles win over Alanna Gangemi, and Street and Cathleen Touisithiphonexay downed Gangemi and Carissa Roseland 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

TLU No. 3 singles player Kasey Weikel fell 10-4 in the third-set, 10-point tiebreaker after winning the first set 6-2 and losing the second set 6-3 to Casey Morgan.
