ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne women's tennis team rolled through their first two opponents to advance to the American Southwest Conference championship match but fell in the final to Hardin-Simmons 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
In this weekend's American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, the Lady Jackets first defeated the University of the Ozarks 5-0 on Friday.
On Saturday, Howard Payne defeated Mississippi College 5-1 to advance to the championship match versus Hardin-Simmons. MC was the team that knocked the Lady Jackets out of last season's conference tournament.
Earlier in the season HPU had lost to Hardin-Simmons 6-3, But this time the Lady Jacket took it to the wire coming down to the last match-up of the championship.
HPU fell in the end 5-4. The Lady Jackets do enjoy one of the best season records in school history at 12-6.
