AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne men's basketball team, carrying only nine players today, seemed no match for the fast paced game of the Tornados of Concordia, 119-74.
Although Howard Payne shot a decent percentage from the field of 44.6%, the Tornados shot 55.8%. While Howard Payne was able to tie the score once, the Jackets seemed to be able to get going, entering the locker room down, 36-60.
The turnover margin was a large contribution to the outcome of the game, with the Tornados scoring 41 points off of turnovers compared to the Jackets 12. Also, Concordia obviously had their running game going considering they scored 24 fast-break points to Howard Payne's 6.
Howard Payne's Lee Scott had a big night with 23 points. He was followed by Bryan Blalock with 18 and Tom Hermann 16, both of who were able to grab 5 rebounds on the game. Brock Woods also had a game high 11 rebounds.
Concordia was led by Tino Maxwell with an outstanding total of 28 points, followed closely by Joel McDonald with 23, Jason Recendez with 14, and Mike Moore and Brad Walker each having 13.
Howard Payne falls to 8-9 on the season, 6-7 in the American Southwest Conference. Concordia improves their season to 10-6, 7-5 in the conference.
The Jackets will play next on Thursday evening at 7:30PM versus the McMurry Indians following the women's game at 5:30 PM.
