BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets fell to American Southwest Conference East Division opponent University of Texas Tyler 72-81 Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots of University of Texas Tyler started off the game on an 11-2 run sparked by great 3-point shooting. Howard Payne trailed the entire first half and went into the break down 25-30.
Howard Payne rallied back to take the lead at 36-34 in the opening minutes of the second half. That was it for the Jackets as UT Tyler regained the lead and extended it to 12, 41-53 with 5:21 to play. UT Tyler went on to secure the 81-72 victory.
HPU was led by Lee Scott with 20 points. Tom Hermann had a double double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Brock Woods added 11 points and 5 assists.
UT Tyler's Anthony Reese finished with a game high 21 points while Brandon Weasby added 19 points. Patrick Branche grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Jackets fall to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the ASC, while UTT improved to 5-6 and 4-2 in ASC action.
The Jackets will play at Louisiana College on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
