HPU 1-1 On Day 2 Of ASC Crossover #2

Sydney Bryant (#1) had 18 kills during the ASC crossover tournament

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket volleyball team went 1-1 on day two of the ASC Crossover Tournament #2 with a 0-3 loss to East Texas Baptist and a 3-0 win over host LeTourneau.

Against East Texas Baptist HPU fell 0-3 (19-25,23-25,16-25). Tamika Heline and Megan Pick led the team with 9 kills each. Kristin Hammond had 14 digs and Amy Crouch added 20 assists.

Later it the day the Lady Jackets downed host LeTourneau 3-0 (25-12,25-17,25-19). Heline and Pick were the top hitters for HPU again with 19 and 12 kills respectively. Heline had a .447 hitting pct and Pick had a .435 hitting pct. Sydney Bryant, Temika Heline, and Kristin Hammond all had 12 digs each. Amy Crouch led with 26 assists. 

The Lady Jackets record at both ASC crossover tournaments this season are a combined 4-2 with their only losses coming to UT-Dallas and East Texas Baptist (the top two schools on the ASC East Division). This is the first time in three seasons under head coach Ken Carver that Howard Payne has had a winning record at the ASC crossover tournaments.

At the end of the tournament, the Lady Jackets improved to 13-11 overall and 6-9 in American Southwest Conference action.
