Ladies Secure Winning Season With 5-0 Win

Lady Jackets have first winning season in only third year of competition

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Lauren Hankins and Takenda Cotton get two goals each for Howard Payne in a 5-0 victory over the University of Dallas in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Jackets held the University of Dallas to just 3 total shots (1 on goal) to HPU's 16 (7 on goal). 

Takenda Cotton scored just 4 minutes into the match on a breakaway with Lori Gomez being credited with the assist.

The Lady Jackets got two more goals in the first period from Lauren Hankins in the 23th and 30 minutes. Takenda Cotton, Victoria Sherry, Kelli Wentworth, and Lori Gomez recorded assists on the Hankins' goals. 3-0 HPU at halftime.

Wentworth and Cotton got goals in the 52nd (Allison Harp assist) and 89th (Allison Harp, Ashli McCutchen assists) minutes to round out the 5-0 victory for Howard Payne.

The Lady Jackets improve to 10-8-0 overall, while Univ. of Dallas falls to 0-13-2 on the season.

Senior Ashli McCutchen was honored before the match for her dedication to HPU soccer.

Howard Payne plays their regular season final in Belton versus Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday. A tie or a win will put the Lady Jackets in the ASC playoffs.
