Jackets Fall In End To LeTourneau

HPU's Keith Perry was 6 of 6 from behind the arc scoring a game high 24 points

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets led all but the last 4 minutes of the game and fell 61-69 to visiting LeTourneau University in American Southwest Conference action in the Brownwood Coliseum Saturday afternoon. 

The Jackets started strong and had as much as an 11-point lead, 24-13, in the first half with 4:40 on the clock. HPU secured a 27-19 halftime lead and outshot LeTourneau 41% to 26% in the first half. 

LeTourneau chipped away at the HPU lead and gained their first lead with 4:01 to play, 55-56. LeTourneau outscored HPU 13-6 in the closing minutes to defeat the Jackets 69-61. Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the second half. 

LeTourneau was led by Dale Vanwright with 18 points. Josh Davis had15, JJ Rockmore had 14, and Dusty Evers finished with 10 points. 

HPU was led by Keith Perry game high 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting. Perry was 6 of 6 from behind the three-point line. Tom Hermann and Bryan Blalock scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Hermann also had a game high 8 rebounds. 

The Jackets fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in ASC play, while LeTourneau improves to 2-1, 1-0 in ASC action. 

Howard Payne will play next at home on Monday at 5:00pm against East Texas Baptist University.
