Jackets Drop Second In A Row At Home

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Jackets lose their second straight home game this season to East Texas Baptist University 64-76 on Monday at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne jumped out to an early 16-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Keith Perry accounted for 8 of the Jackets first 16 points. The Jackets shoot 46.7% from the floor while ETBU only managed 7.1% in the first ten minutes.

The Tigers fight back, outscoring the Jackets 12 to 4 in the later part of the first half, shortening the Jackets' lead to 22-18. Howard Payne held strong to finish the half at 30-25.

ETBU's offense came out the second half putting up six points in the first two minutes to take the lead 31-25. The Jackets offense answers with 17 points in the next five minutes while holding the Tigers to eight. The game remains an offensive battle through out the rest of the half.

The Tigers held their lead with eight minutes remaining but Howard Payne remained on their heels at 56-52. The Jackets continue to battle hard but fell short with a loss of 64-76.

Keith Perry led all scorers with 19 points while on defense Tom Hermann led with a game-high 8 rebounds. Perry continued his high percentage shooting from behind the arc going 3 of 4 in the game. Hermann added 9 points and 4 assists.

For ETBU, Jacob Turnipseed and La'France Cooper both end with a total of 16 points each.

Howard Payne drops to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in ASC play while ETBU improves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in ASC play.

The Jackets will play their next game away on Thursday at 7:30 pm against the University of the Ozarks.
