Home Streak Now At 40 Games

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets take the 59-56 win over Mississippi College in a nail-bitting performance from both teams and extend their home win streak to 40 games at the Brownwood Coliseum on Thursday night.

The difference in the game came to the free-throw line as the Lady Jackets made 15 of 21 (71%) while MC only managed 11 of 20 (55%).

The Lady Jackets opened up the game with a quick 9-1 lead. Howard Payne held the lead for the first 13 minutes of the game.

Mississippi College closed the gap to 17-17 with a jumper by Anesia McBride. The end of the first half was a battle for the lead, but the Lady Jackets were able hold to a two point lead to end the half at 27-25.

With a tug-a-war for the lead early in the second half, the Lady Choctaws grab an eight point lead with 13:38 left in the game.

The Lady Jackets dug deep to shorten the deficit and outscored MC 15-3 in the final 10 minutes of play. The Choctaws hang on to their lead till Howard Payne's Tiffany Warner sank a jumper with 41 seconds left to make it 57-56 Lady Jackets. The bucket was Warner's only field goal of the game. Two free-throws by Katy Sarem allowed the Lady Jackets hold on to win 59-56.

Mississippi Colleges' Rosemary Green put up game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Choctaws. Brittany Dukes and Anesia McBride added 10 points each.

With team effort the Lady Jackets top scorers were Hope Hohertz and Katy Sarem with 13 each followed closely by Sarah Jockers with 12 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the field. Elaine Hobbs led Howard Payne in rebounds with six while also chipping in eight points.

Howard Payne improves to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in ASC play, while MC falls to 7-2, and 3-2 in ASC action.

The Lady Jackets will host Louisiana College this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
