Jackets Win Third Straight

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets got 20 point games out of Keith Perry and Brandon Irwin in a 77-70 win over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum. 

The Jackets shot over 50% from the field and from behind the three-point line in the game. 

Howard Payne jumped out early and held an 18-4 lead with 13:36 left in the first half. LC battled back to tie the game at 25-25 with 7:16 left in the first. The Jackets retook the lead and held a 41-35 halftime advantage. 

The Jackets pushed their lead to 15 points in the second half. LC rallied late but came up short and Howard Payne won 77-70. 

LC was led by Josh Johnson with a game-high 24 points. Jarrod Jackson followed with 15. 

Keith Perry led the Jackets with 22 points. Brandon Irwin added 20 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field, 5 of 5 from the three-point line. Zane Smith and Tom Hermann had 11 and 10 points respectively. Hermann also had 5 assists. 

Howard Payne improves to 3-6 overall, and 3-5 in ASC play after winning three straight games. LC falls to 2-7, 1-5 in ASC action. 

The Jackets play next Saturday at home against the University of the Incarnate Word at 3:00 pm.
