Three Game Win Streak Ends

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets had a 31-31 tie with the Cardinals of the University of the Incarnate Word but fell in the end 67-92 in non-conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum Saturday afternoon. 

Howard Payne was outscored 36-61 in the second half sparked by 51% shooting from Incarnate Word. Both teams shot 100% from the free-throw line in the game, HPU 8 of 8 and UIW 19 of 19. 

The Jackets jumped out to an early lead at 11-2 just 4 minutes into the game. Incarnate Word from that point when on a 21-2 run over a 5 minute span and held a 13-23 advantage midway through the first.
Howard Payne made a push and a Keith Perry layup just before the half tied the game at 31-31 at the break. 

Incarnate Word took the lead early in the second and slowly added to it over the duration of the half. The Cardinals were 11 of 20 from behind the arc in the second to post the 67-92 final. 

UIW was led by Pierce Caldwell with a game-high 25 points. Chris Patterson had 17 with Jawan Bailey and Tracy Robinson adding 12 points each. 

HPU was led by Tom Hermann with 16 points and a game high 9 rebounds. Bryan Blalock had 14 and Brandon Irwin had 10. Keith Perry added 4 assists. 

The Jackets fall to 3-7 overall while Incarnate Word improved to 8-2. 

Howard Payne will play next on Tuesday at home against Anderson University at 3:00 pm.
