Jackets Lose To Anderson

Zane Smith had 14 points and 6 assists against Anderson

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets could not recover from a 17-point halftime deficit and fell to Anderson University (Indiana) 78-93 in non-conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum Tuesday afternoon. 

Howard Payne was outrebounded 40-20. Anderson had a hot shooting game hitting 58% of their shots, 52% from behind the three-point line. 

There were six lead changes in the first eight minutes of the first half. Then Anderson's Ty Riddle came off the bench hitting 7 three-points over the next 12 minutes to help the Ravens to a 41-58 advantage. 

Starting the second half on an 11-5 run, Anderson extended their lead to 23, 46-69 with 16:47 left. The Jackets battled back and cut the Anderson lead to 7, 74-81 on a Karl Wesley three-pointer with 3:36 to play. That was as close as the Jackets would come and Anderson held on to win 78-93. 

Anderson was led by Ty Riddle with 29 points on 9 of 14 shooting, all from behind the three-point line. Rodney Holliday followed closely with 26 and Mike Russell added 14. Holliday also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. 

Keith Perry led Howard Payne with 23 points, he was 3 of 6 from behind the three-point line. Tom Hermann and Zane Smith added 15 and 14 points respectively. Hermann also dished out a game-high 6 assists. 

The Jackets fall to 3-8 overall, while Anderson improves to 8-3. Howard Payne will travel to Abilene Christian on January 1st for a non-conference meeting.
