Jackets Fall To Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, AR. - The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets could not put together a long enough run and fell to the University of the Ozarks Eagles 59-71 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first ten minutes but around the 10 minutes mark Ozarks took a lead they would not giveaway the remainder of the game. It was Ozarks Tony that proved to be a tough matchup as he hit five straight shots in the first half, three of which were from behind the arc, to help Ozarks end the half with a 41-25 advantage.

Howard Payne wouldn't go down easy though as they opened the second half with a 14-2 run to trim Ozarks lead to 43-39 with 14:13 remaining and 48-45 four minutes later. Ozards pulled away from there to defeat HPU 59-71.

Clark ended with 22 points for Ozarks, while Woolvertom recorded 15 points. Daniels added 10 points and eight rebounds. Tony Brock handed out seven assists.

HPU was led by Keith Perry and Brandon Irwin with 14 points each. Tom Herman added a game high 8 rebounds with 9 points.

Howard Payne fell to 0-5 overall, 0-4 in ASC action, while Ozarks improved to 3-4, 1-2 in ASC.

The Jackets will be in action on Saturday against the University of Texas Dallas at 3:00 pm.
