Jackets Lose Another Close One

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets came up short for the second time this week in a 77-83 loss the Concordia University Texas Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum.

 

The Jackets commit 24 turnovers and shoot just 23% from behind the arc, while Concordia hits 40% of their just from long range.

 

It was close throughout the ballgame with both teams changing leads. Concordia went into the half up 44-42. Howard Payne held 77-76 lead with 1:09 to play in the game. A Concordia 3-pointer with :39 left gave Concordia a 79-77 lead. HPU's Bryan Blalock had a open layup to tie the game with :22 left but it did not fall. Concordia went on to post the 83-77 win.

 

Deandray McDaniel in his first start of the season for the Jackets scored 18 points, Brock Woods also added 18. Lee Scott had 15 and Bryan Blalock added 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds.

 

Concordia was led by Joel McDonald with 22 points followed closely by Tino Maxwell with 21. Mike Moore added 10.

 

The Jackets fell to 11-12 overall and 9-10 in the ASC, while Concordia improved to 16-7 on the season and 13-6 in ASC action.

 

The Jackets travel to Seguin to take on Texas Lutheran on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
