Tom Hermann (#33) had a season-high 25 points against Concordia Thursday night

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets got a season high 25 points for senior Tom Hermann on their way to an 89-78 victory over Concordia University Texas in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night in the Brownwood Coliseum.

The Jackets out-rebounded Concordia 40-29 and shot an amazing 61% from the field in the game. Tom Hermann in his game-high 25 point effort missed only two field goals (9 of 11) and one free-throw (6 of 7) in the game.

The game remained tight throughout the first half with neither team being able to build more than a 5 point lead. A Quentin Calloway layup with under a minute to play in the first half gave Howard Payne a 35-32 halftime advantage. 

Howard Payne had an 8-point lead on a Zane Smith 3-pointer with 15:30 left in the game but the quick scoring Concordia offense tied the game up at 49-49 in just a minute and a half.

A spark from Daytona Burch off the bench (7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks) for the Jackets help lead Howard Payne to its biggest lead of the game 13, 77-64, with 4:13 left to play. The Jackets held strong and secured their fourth conference win of the season, 89-78.

Jason Recendez led Concordia with 13 points and 6 assists. Donald Lee and Neil Welch each added 11 points.

Along with Hermann's 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, Keith Perry had 16 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Irwin had 12 points and 6 rebounds followed by Zane Smith with 11.

The Jackets improve to 4-10 overall and 4-6 in ASC play, while Concordia falls to 5-8, 4-5 in ASC action.

Howard Payne will play next on Saturday against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
