HPU Loses To HSU

Bryan Blalock (#11) finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds against HSU

ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets fell to Hardin-Simmons University 81-102 in the Mabee Complex Thursday evening. 

After being down by 11 early on Howard Payne rallied at the end of the first half to tie the game at 44-44 with 2:00 to play. HSU with a three-pointer at the buzzer was able to secure a 44-50 halftime advantage. 

Both teams shot great from the field in the first with the Jackets shooting 67% to HSU's 54%.
HSU extended their lead to 11 points again in the second 51-62 on a three-point bucket with 14:26 left. 

Offensive rebounding and hot three-point shooting helped HSU to a 20-point lead 60-80 with 9 minutes left. The Cowboys held on and secured the 81-102 win. 

Hardin-Simmons was led by Terrence Willis with 21 points. Carlos Singer had 19, Mark Schlott had 15, and Rob Yeatts added 14 points. 

Tom Hermann led the Jackets with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Bryan Blalock had 16 points and 6 rebounds. Zane Smith and Keith Perry had 11 points each with Brandon Irwin following with 10 points. Smith had 5 assists. 

Howard Payne falls to 4-12, 4-8 in ASC play, while HSU improves to 5-10, 4-7 in ASC action. 

The Jackets will play again on Saturday at McMurry University. It will be a 5:00 pm game start.
