Women's Soccer Gets Win Over Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Concordia University Texas 3-1 in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Concordia scored first just five minute into the game when Hilary Wagner scored on a Sara Schatte cross.

Despite being down 1-0 at the half, the Lady Jackets did not let it get to them. Howard Payne scored in the 51st minute on a goal by Susana Chavarria from 45 yards out. Assist was from Takenda Cotton.

HPU goal leader Leslie Jones added two more goals in the 62nd (Chavarria assist) and 64th minutes to secure the 3-1 victory.

The Lady Jackets outshot Concordia 20 to 5  and took double the amount of corner kicks (6-3) in the game.

Kaitlyn Kelm and Allison Gudmundson split time in goal for Howard Payne with two and one saves respectively.

Howard Payne improves to 4-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in ASC action, while Concordia falls to 2-4-3, 1-4-1 ASC play.

Howard Payne will be at home next week versus the University of the Ozarks and the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday and Saturday.
