Jackets Get Loss On Senior Night

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket shot just 32% from the field and fell to visiting McMurry University 57-82 in ASC action in the Brownwood Coliseum Saturday afternoon. 

McMurry shot 59% from the field and 53% from the three-point line in the game. Howard Payne was 6 of 27 from behind the arc. 

The game remained close in the opening minutes but McMurry was able to build a 21-35 halftime led. 

Howard Payne got to within 10 twice in the second half but the McMurry's high-percentage shooting continued and pushed their lead back to 20+. Howard Payne fell 57-82. McMurry out-scored HPU 50-20 in the paint in the game. 

McMury was led by Jonathan Walker with 27 points. Richard Jones added 16. Dewayne Hall and Jamal Anene followed with 12 and 11 points respectively. 

Howard Payne was led by Bryan Blalock with 14 points off the bench. Zane Smith added 13 and Henry Valladares had 11. Smith also had 5 assists. 

The Jackets fall to 6-17 overall and 6-13 in ASC play, while McMurry improves to 16-7, 15-4 in ASC action. 

Howard Payne will travel to Concordia on Thursday, game time will be 7:30 pm.
