Lady Jackets Get Season Sweep Of TLU

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets cruised to a 77-61 victory over the visiting Texas Lutheran University Lady Bulldogs in the Brownwood Coliseum Saturday afternoon. 

The Lady Jackets out-rebounded Texas Lutheran 48-34 and shot 45% from the field in the game. Howard Payne also held Texas Lutheran to just 32% shooting from the floor. 

The game remained close throughout the first half before HPU was able to secure an 11-point lead, 39-28 with 42 seconds remaining in the first half. TLU did score 5 more points before the break and HPU held a 39-33 halftime lead. 

Howard Payne opened the second half with a 15-2 run. An Elaine Hobbs three-pointer with 13:13 to play gave the Lady Jackets their largest lead of the game. Howard Payne cruised from their and secured the 77-61 win. 

Tamisha Timpson led Texas Lutheran with a game 16 points with 6 rebounds. No other Lady Bulldogs were in double digits. 

Hope Hohertz led HPU with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Elaine Hobbs and Stephanie Brewer added 13 and 12 points respectively. Sarah Jockers came off the bench with 9 points and 8 rebounds. 

The Lady Jackets improve to 16-5 overal and 12-5 in ASC action with Texas Lutheran falling to 7-14, 5-12 in ASC play. 

Howard Payne plays at home next on Thursday against ASC rival Hardin-Simmons at 5:30 pm.
