Lady Jackets Open 2009 Season

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket tennis team opened their 2009 season on the road this weekend with matches against Austin College, Oklahoma Baptist, and the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

Howard Payne returns a young talented group from last season and hopes to make another splash in the American Southwest Conference West Division. The Lady Jackets opened this season up at Austin College on Friday with a 6-3 win. Saturday they traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Baptist and the University of Arkansas - Ft. Smith. Howard Payne played well but dropped both matches 3-6.

"I was pleased with the way some of our freshmen really stepped up in some close matches and came through in the clutch," said Sally Brown head tennis coach. "I have seen great improvement from the fall to the spring with these young ladies and I think they are very talented. I think they are starting to see what they can accomplish if they will compete and train hard."

The Lady Jackets will play at  home this week on Thursday against the College of the Southwest at the Nabers Tennis Center.
