Softball Split With Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets softball split a double header with Schreiner University on day one of the series, 6-3 and 12-17 at Lady Jacket Field. 

The Lady Jackets used a four-run first inning to take game one 6-3. Howard Payne led 6-0 at the end of the sixth inning. Schreiner got all three of their runs in the top of the seventh. Kellye Wheeler had three hits and 2 RBI for the Lady Jackets. 

Jenna Middleton got the win for HPU striking out eight to improve to 9-0 on the year. Rebecca Hay recorded the loss for Schreiner. 

In game two, the Lady Jackets opened it up early and led 9-1. The lead was sparked by a seven run second inning for HPU. Schreiner battled back putting up multiple runs in the 3rd through 6th innings. Howard Payne had a three-run bottom of the fifth but that was as close as they could come. Schreiner held for the 12-17 win. 

Kristi Pinkerton had three hits and Ashley Silva had 3 RBI. Three other HPU players had 2 hits in the game. Melissa Hall got the loss for HPU and Patty Toman recorded the complete game win for Schreiner. 

Howard Payne stands at 17-3, 5-1 in ASC play and Schreiner is 15-6, 4-2 in ASC action. 

The two teams will play again on Saturday in a double header to complete the series.
